Where We Plan, Laugh, and Keep It Together
Sunday nights in the Wither household are a thing. Some families have movie night. Some do pizza night. We? We have the Sunday Night Family Meeting—our weekly ritual to check in, reset, and map out the days ahead.
It might sound a little “corporate,” but trust me, it’s anything but. Picture this: calendars spread across the table, kids tossing out reminders like mini project managers, and Ross and I trying to keep the agenda moving before bedtime chaos sets in.

Our Weekly Agenda Checklist
- Highlights of the Week
Everyone shares their “best part” of the week. Sometimes it’s something big (a great grade on a test, a win at practice), and sometimes it’s just, “I got extra dessert at lunch.” Wins are wins. - Looking Ahead
This week’s “looking ahead” is especially important—we’re gearing up for our next trip to Minnesota. The twist? This time it’s just Momma and Papa on the move. Yep, no kids in tow, and we’re flying instead of road tripping. That means a lot of our discussion is about who’s holding down the fort while we’re gone. Schedules for school drop-offs, practices, meals, and bedtime routines all get ironed out so the kids feel consistency while we’re away. It’s a mix of logistics and reassurance: even when we’re on the road (or in the air), the rhythm of home stays steady. - To-Dos & Assignments
- Which adult kid or grandparent is covering what?
- What do we need to prep before flying out (snacks for the house, clean uniforms, notes to teachers)?
- Who’s packing what (and no, Megann, you can’t just toss random clothes in a bag at the last second).
- Fun Add-Ons
We always sneak in a moment for fun. This week it was joking about how much quieter the plane ride will be without someone asking “Are we there yet?” two minutes after takeoff. - Wrap-Up & Recap
Before bedtime, we go around with a “what’s happening tomorrow” lightning round. That way Monday doesn’t ambush anyone.
How We Keep It Productive (and Sanity-Saving)
We’ve all seen how meetings shouldn’t go, thanks to the hilarious “Conference Call in Real Life”. So to keep ours from spiraling:
- We start on time. No waiting for someone to “grab just one more thing.”
- We use an agenda. It’s posted ahead of time so nobody can claim they “forgot.”
- We give everyone a role. Someone takes notes, someone’s on digital calendar duty, and someone (usually Ross) is on “focus patrol.”
- We keep it light. Even while planning a trip and juggling school consistency, there’s always room for laughs.
Why These Meetings Matter
- Consistency is key. With school in full swing, the kids need their routines. Our Sunday meetings make sure those rhythms are protected—even when we’re on a plane headed north.
- Everyone has a say. The kids might not be joining us in Minnesota, but they still get to voice what they need while we’re away.
- It eases the stress. Laying everything out in advance means fewer surprises for anyone (and fewer frantic texts while we’re gone).
Closing Thought
Sunday night family meetings aren’t glamorous. They’re not Insta-worthy (unless you count the snack spread). But they’re the backbone of how we keep life humming—through travel, school, and the unpredictability of family life.
So here’s to Sunday nights with the Traveling Withers: planning trips, keeping the kids steady, laughing through the chaos, and making sure both the home front and the “away team” are ready for the week ahead. Minnesota, we’re coming for you—wings, not wheels this time! ✈️
