Heading to Houston this week for Ross’ first procedure to help eradicate the melanoma in his eye, plaque brachytherapy. The hope is that by bombarding the tumor with radiation, it will shrink gradually and pass through Ross’ body. I love this man so much y’all. We never dreamed that this Uveal Melanoma diagnosis would be on our 2024 bingo card – but here we are.
Uveal Melanoma is an extremely rare cancer for which there is no proven cure. 5 in a million chance of getting it. I knew Ross Doc Wither was special but 5 in a million?! We will be navigating medical treatments and clinical studies for the rest of his life. There are costs associated with traveling and lodging. There are costs associated with treatments and trials. There is no playbook for this. 63 doctors in the United States treat this cancer. Our options are limited and we must travel out of state to get the care that Ross needs.
